Hyatt Hotel—San Francisco

The present-day site of the Hyatt Hotel at Fisherman's Wharf remained submerged beneath the San Francisco Bay until the close of the 19th Century, when extensive filling and dumping began, rendering the area suitable for building.

In 1988, Archeo-Tec's excavation revealed an astonishing number of intact cultural artifacts, including glass bottles, jars and tumblers, mugs, saucers, porcelain doll fragments, shoes, belts, and Chinese ceramics. These items provided a remarkable cross-section of the range of cultures present in the San Francisco Bay area during the latter half of the 19th Century.
