In
1985, Archeo-Tec excavated the architectural remnants of the
original International Hotel. Built in 1854, it was one of the
great hotels of the mid-19th century in San Francisco.
Underneath
the hotel, Archeo-Tec uncovered structural remains of a residence/carpentry
shop that contained a vast assemblage of tools and hardware
that date back to 1849, designating it among the earliest
of San Francisco Gold Rush deposits.
